The ReElection of President Obama

askamormon:

The First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement Tuesday:

We congratulate President Obama on winning a second term as President of the United States.

After a long campaign, this is now a time for Americans to come together. It is a long tradition among Latter-day Saints to pray for our national leaders in our personal prayers and in our congregations. We invite Americans everywhere, whatever their political persuasion, to pray for the President, for his administration and the new Congress as they lead us through difficult and turbulent times. May our national leaders reflect the best in wisdom and judgment as they fulfill the great trust afforded to them by the American people.

We also commend Governor Romney for engaging at the highest level of our democratic process which, by its nature, demands so much of those who offer themselves for public service. We wish him and his family every success in their future endeavors.

Oh, yay, more anti-Mormon crap on Tumblr.  This is the best stuff ever.  Like, ever, man.

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul - We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.
We really believe there is a prophet like Moses on earth today.  Hint: so did every single faithful Jewish person from the dawn of Creation to at least the time of Malachi.  Jesus Christ is considered by many to be a prophet (He was obviously more than that,) as were Elijah and Isaiah and many others.
Like the prophets of old, prophets today testify of Jesus Christ and teach His gospel. They make known God’s will and true character. They speak boldly and clearly, denouncing sin and warning of its consequences. At times, they may be inspired to prophesy of future events for our benefit.
Harry Reid’s a Mormon, too.  As an FYI.  Unlike Romney, he’s a pompous jerkface tad inconsiderate.  Also, he’s a Democrat, and the current Majority Leader of the Senate.
You can learn a lot more about what Mormons actually believe.  You can learn a lot about the specific crap people say about us that isn’t true, and how it’s specifically not true.  Or, you could go away.  That would work great for me.

Not saying it’s a Mormon conspiracy, but it sure does look like one, no?

SO, opinion.
1. Have you EVER listened or seen Thomas S. Monson? because hateful isn’t him. at all. If you listened to him or saw him, he is ALWAYS happy. He smiles, he speaks with love, and I’ve never heard him being rude or unkind to anyone.
2. We as LDS, are not required to obey anything he says. We choose to because many of the things that have been revealed to him are important, and for our safety. I personally have obeyed and disobeyed, and I have found that I am more content and just happy with myself and my life when I follow the guidelines of the gospel. They are not rules, and we are not bound by some contract to even listen. that is CHOICE.
take it or leave it. You can believe whatever you want, but as for me, I KNOW that Thomas S. Monson is a Prophet, and that helps me everyday. I am blessed for the decisions I prayerfully make, and the promises I keep.

Just wanted to add that people were actually concerned about JFK taking orders from the Pope when he was elected…I think we turned out alright and I don’t think we’re a Catholic run country now, are we?
Also, we’re supposed to obey the law of the land too.

Hate is a dark path to be on.  I recommend you try to focus on the positives in your world, and ignore things you have such an unhelpful response to, if you can’t figure out a way to turn that hate into something better.

If you want to know what being a Mormon is like, there are plenty of us here and we’re happy to tell you - it’s pretty different for each individual, honestly.  You could also be a little bit stalkerish and read random profiles on Mormon.org.

I do really hate Mitt Romney but it makes me so uncomfortable when people talk bad about him for being a Mormon.

I guess I don’t know much about what being a Mormon really includes, but yeah

American Moses

Today’s Between the Covers podcast is with John G. Turner, author of Brigham Young: Pioneer Prophet. We discuss why Brigham Young is sometimes called the “American Moses,” what Young would think of his fellow Mormon Mitt Romney, and whether voters in 2012 will accept a Mormon president.

Andrew Sullivan: Conservative Mormons Will Be Crazy Politicans; Moderate Ones Won't

Once again, in order to speculate on a crazy Mormon president, you have to meticulously ignore the best evidence of how Mormons actually live their beliefs and discount any evidence regarding how the candidate himself approaches issues outside the frame of his religion.  Sullivan’s essay serves as a model for what will surely be many similarly ridiculous pieces in the future.
