That’s what my case manager had me do with my inner critic. Now that I know a little more about her, I’m constructing dialogues where I try and identify what she would have to say about something, and then responding with a healthy, logical answer that addresses the faulty reasoning behind it.
It’s a bit like questioning a hostile witness, except the “questions” are all statements, and it’s sort of an open issue of who’s the hostile witness and who’s the questioner. Not to mention the question of the judge and jury.
I’m going to try to do one of these every day or two, so I can practice it, till the case manager comes back on Tuesday and tells me whether I was doing it right.
